DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the TFEL Event Series: Making Change Together\nThis dynamic series of events\, hosted by the Transforming the Field Education Landscape (TFEL) partnership\, celebrates social work field education. Join us from March 17–21\, 2025\, in Calgary\, Edmonton\, and online for five inspiring days of workshops\, an exhibition\, and networking opportunities. This Event Series will bring together TFEL co-investigators\, collaborators\, students\, and community partners. \nThe week begins on Monday\, March 17th in Calgary for the Climate Action and Advocacy Exhibition at The Hive (Office of Sustainability) and a workshop on Green Social Work. In the afternoon of March 17th\, there will be a lunch and networking opportunities with the International Social Work event. Additional workshops in Calgary include Redesigning BSW Field Education\, the Art of Digital Storytelling\, Spirituality and Field Education\, and an online Indigenous Social Work workshop. \nJoin us in Edmonton on Thursday\, March 20\, and Friday\, March 21 for the TFEL Event Series. We will kick off the event in Edmonton with a breakfast and an online workshop focusing on Field Education for Racialized Students and a hybrid workshop on Field Education and Private Practice. In the afternoon of March 20\, enjoy lunch followed by a workshop on Macro Social Work Field Education. The day will conclude with a networking opportunity as we join the Faculty of Social Work’s Research Symposium starting at 4:30 pm. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Southwestern University\, Master’s degree in Social Work from The University of Texas\, and Doctor of Social Work from The University of Tennessee. Dr. Beck Aguilera has practiced as a professional social worker for over 14 years in the fields of juvenile justice\, school-based mental health\, and substance use treatment. Her areas of passion include family-based treatment for adolescents and breaking the school-to-prison pipeline. \nC Gage\, BSW (pronouns they/them/theirs) graduated from St. Edward’s University in Austin\, Texas\, in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. They presented research on gender identity and expression at the Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) conference in 2017 and gave an oral presentation at the 2020 Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression on alternatives to policing in schools and the relationships between school and prison. She has conducted research\, including analyzing policies\, on older adults and healthcare with focus on palliative care\, long-term care\, and family caregiving. Karen is a registered social worker and researcher and has been practicing in diverse settings related to older adults\, such as community senior services centre and long-term care. She serves in the Seniors Community of Practice and Anti-racist and Actions Committee of the British Columbia Association of Social Workers. Karen is a long-term volunteer of Alzheimer’s Society. Join the authors to learn more about about this topic and the implications for field education. \nAbout the Authors: \nHeather M. Boynton\, PhD\, is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary. She is also the vice-president of the Canadian Society for Spirituality and Social Work. Her research and teaching interests include spirituality and trauma\, grief and loss\, post-traumatic growth\, children and family mental health\, holistic body-mind-spirit approaches to health and wellness\, and interprofessional education. She has over 30 years of experience as a child and youth worker\, social worker and child and family therapist\, and manager in mental health. She also is an adjunct professor in Kinesiology at Lakehead University and a member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute. \nEmma De Vynck is a recent graduate of University of Calgary’s Master’s of Social Work program. Emma’s thesis research explored the lived experiences of spiritual distress for women of evangelical backgrounds. Emma continues to collaborate with her thesis supervisor\, Dr. Heather Boynton\, on projects at the intersection of social work and spirituality.
