Student Research Assistant – French Translator Social Work and Field Education, Faculty of Social Work

The Transforming the Field Education Landscape: Intersections of Research and Practice in Canadian Social Work Field Education research project, led by Project Director Julie Drolet, invites applications for a Student Research Assistant – French Translator position in Social Work. This position will work remotely from home.

Job Description:

The student research assistant will contribute to “Transforming the Field Education Landscape: Intersections of Research and Practice in Canadian Social Work Field Education” (funded by a SSHRC Partnership Grant) led by Project Director Dr. Julie Drolet. The goal of this partnership is to integrate research and practice in the preparation of the next generation of social workers by developing partnered research training initiatives that enhance student and trainee research practice knowledge and applied skill development.

This role will be mainly focused on translating the monthly newsletter from English into French. Other responsibilities include managing research ethics applications and amendments, managing a national study in Canada, analyzing data, drafting publications and reports, contributing to knowledge mobilization activities (peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, webinars, workshops, etc.) and other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Fluent in French and English.

• Applicants must be current students in an accredited program in Canada.

• Applicants are required to have relevant practice research experience and demonstrated

capacity to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

• Experience in leadership, and training and mentoring of students is an asset.

Student research assistants and postdoctoral scholars are invited to participate in our partnered training and mentoring activities through various research activities and other events. TFEL recruits multiple student research assistants and postdoctoral scholars in every academic semester. Job postings can be found here.

Student research assistants are involved in coordinating project activities, developing training resources, creating digital stories, conducting literature reviews, recruiting research participants, analyzing survey and interview data, writing various reports, and contributing to planning virtual events, workshops, and webinars. It’s even possible for these paid student research assistant positions to be used as paid practicum opportunities!

Postdoctoral scholars are contributing to TFEL through the three streams of research activities: 1) digital storytelling; 2) national study; and 3) applied practice research. Activities include, but are not limited to, managing research ethics applications and amendments, facilitating a national study and other surveys relevant to the project, analyzing data, supervising and training students, drafting publications and reports, contributing to knowledge mobilization activities such as conference presentations, and other research activities.
