Register today for the launch of the Social Work and Disaster (SWAD) Network, co-chaired by Bonnie Lewin, MSW and Dr. Julie Drolet.

This event marks the launch of the SWAD Network, which aims to build capacity and create awareness of the role of social workers and social services professionals in disaster contexts. The network contributes to building a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable society while reducing inequalities and vulnerabilities in Alberta.

The event will include a keynote presentation by Dr. Lena Dominelli, Chair of Social Work and Programme Director, Disaster Interventions and Humanitarian Aid, University of Stirling, Scotland, titled Green Social Work: Responding to the Challenges of COVID-19. This presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on the role of social workers in disasters, with panelists, Dr. Robin Ersing (USA), Dr. Amy Fulton (Canada), Dr. Golam Mathbor (USA), Dr. Miriam Samuel (India) and a presentation from the network co-chairs on the research findings on disaster social work in Alberta.

This event is hosted in partnership with the Transforming the Field Education Landscape (TFEL) project.

This event will occur on Tuesday, June 22nd from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm MDT / 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm EST.

Inscrivez-vous dès aujourd’hui pour le lancement du Réseau de travail social et de catastrophe (SWAD), coprésidé par Bonnie Lewin, MSW et Dr Julie Drolet.

Cet événement marque le lancement du réseau SWAD, qui vise à renforcer les capacités et à faire prendre conscience du rôle des travailleurs sociaux et des professionnels des services sociaux dans les contextes de catastrophe. Le réseau contribue à bâtir une société plus résiliente, inclusive et durable tout en réduisant les inégalités et les vulnérabilités en Alberta.

L’événement comprendra une présentation par le Dr Lena Dominelli, présidente du travail social et directrice de programme, Interventions en cas de catastrophe et aide humanitaire, Université de Stirling, Écosse, intitulée Travail social vert : Répondre aux défis de COVID-19. Cette présentation sera suivie d’une table ronde sur le rôle des travailleurs sociaux dans les catastrophes, avec les panélistes Dr Robin Ersing (USA), Dr Amy Fulton (Canada), Dr Golam Mathbor (USA), Dr Miriam Samuel ( Inde) et une présentation des coprésidents du réseau sur les résultats de la recherche sur le travail social en cas de catastrophe en Alberta.
