Psychological First Aid Training for a Pandemic

Presenter: Bonnie Lewin

Date & Time: Tuesday, December 7th, 1:30 – 3:30 pm MST

Bonnie Lewin will facilitate this Psychological First Aid (PFA) training session. PFA is considered to be the first stage of intervention during a disaster or emergency. PFA Online Training allows responders to provide support over the phone to individuals that may be quarantined, in self-isolation, or practicing physical distancing during the pandemic.

Presenters: Evalyna Bogdan and Elaine Miller-Karas

Evalyna Bogdan is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary. She and Elaine Miller-Karas, LCSW and key developer of CRM, facilitated a workshop on the Community Resiliency Model© wellness skills developed by the Trauma Resource Institute to re-establish nervous system regulation after stress and trauma.

Presenter: Dr. Haorui Wu

Dr. Haorui Wu is a Canada Research Chair in Resilience at Dalhousie University in Halifax. He facilitated a workshop regarding building resilience in hazards and disaster research and practice. 

 

Social-Ecological Factors That Contribute to the Resiliency and Recovery of Children and Youth Who Experience Disaster; October 7, 2021

Presenter: Dr. Caroline McDonald-Harker

Dr. Caroline McDonald-Harker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology and the Director for the Centre for Community Disaster Research at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. In her presentation, she discussed her research findings on child and youth resilience in disaster contexts.
